Longer Days

As the days are getting longer, the chickens have stepped up to the plate. Our five “baby” hens have started to lay! We have been getting 3 eggs per day which is wonderful news for this store bought egg intolerant girl. The kids love having fresh eggs as well. They are just your regular red hens, nothing special. Hopefully we will be getting a rooster from a friend soon, and maybe just maybe one will sit!

And with the longer hours of light (even if just barely) the canine companions here have started the shed. We have three very heavy coated dogs, Australian Shepherd, Border Collie and Shetland Sheepdog mix. We’ve got enough fur to make a few sweaters to day the least.

Last night was the fuzzy yellow dogs agility class. He is in intermediate level class and he is doing spectacular. At the last competition he was able to pull off something I’ve not been able to do with the Fish Dog in 9 years of trials… he earned a perfect weekend. What’s the big deal you wonder? Well a perfect weekend is when you and your dog are able to communicate and run an obstacle course together perfectly and earn a qualifying score in every single run. That’s pretty awesome. So in 8 runs the fuzzball and I worked together as a fluid team and he earned those 8 qualifying scores. Seven 1st place and one 2nd place ribbon along with finishing a level 2 handlers game title to go after his name. He got this HUGE perfect weekend ribbon and it just really made me smile. My little rescued mutt of a fuzzy yellow dog did amazing. We are coming together as a team and over coming the challenges together. Very very proud of him. He is about to turn 3 years old in February. The crazy border aussie had his first agility class last friday and he is going to hit it out of the park when it comes to agility I think. He has the fearlessness, drive, stamina, determination, and genius to get the job done. AND he is also a rescue mutt off the streets. Lets hear it for rescue mutts!! Watch out world… here he comes!
